Year 1 have completed the first week of autumn term two.
This week we have had themed days.
On Monday, our theme was firework day. The children were extremely creative throughout the day. They created bonfire pictures using their hands to paint, sticks and glitter, made sparklers using chocolate fingers and icing and watched a firework display.
On Tuesday, they focussed on traditional tales, during this time they explored lots of different tales. They created lolly stick puppets to use in role play, wrote their own stories, created the three pigs houses using different resources. The children shared a range of tales as a class and they thoroughly enjoyed it.
On Wednesday, we focussed on remembrance day. The children learnt all about remembrance day and why we carry out the two minutes silence. Afterwards they paid respects with the two minutes silence. The children created a poppy on a pebble, they turned out beautifully and the children made poppy wreaths using a paper plate.
Thursday we had a space themed day. The children carried out a syllables lesson based on space words. They showed great understanding of syllables during this lesson. They showed great independence by carrying out sorting activities for syllables. The children also created different space pictures using shapes and patterns. Finally, they created their own space sentences from information they have learnt so far this term.
Friday was 'Children in Need' day. As a class we discussed what this day involves and the work the charity does for children in the UK. The children created their own pudsey headband and bookmark. They used their maths skills to solve number problems and phonics skills to match the correct word to each picture.
Thank you for your continued support.
