King's Group Academies

Dear parents and carers,

Welcome to the new Academic Year!

I would like to thank you all for making sure your children are looking smart in their school uniforms
and prepared for their lessons in Year 3; especially during a challenging start to the year, as we have
to adhere to strict guidelines around the Coronavirus Pandemic.

The pupils have already started focussing on their learning in class and have been fantastic at
following our new school and class rules.

In English, we have been reading The Twits by Roald Dahl and discussing the author’s ideas and
fantastic use of language. We have also started writing our own poems, linked to spelling the days of
the week and months of the year. Please encourage your child by helping them with these spellings
this week.

Our inspirational maths sessions have been fun – highlighting the importance of ‘showing resilience’
and ‘having a go’ when we find things tricky.

We have introduced the new topic ‘Ages Ago’ …. going back in time to the Stone Age. The children
have been asked what type of questions they would like to ask about this period of time in history.
Other subjects within the Year 3 curriculum are Spanish, Music, Science, PSHE and RE.

Games and dance lessons have already started and you should have received a letter explaining that
pupils can wear their PE kits to school on certain days. If you are waiting on the school PE kit order,
please send your child into school with a plain t-shirt and shorts for the moment. Warm PE kits will be
essential when the weather gets a little cooler this term.

All children have a reading record and a reading book, which will remain in school at this time.
Children will have the opportunity to bring books home soon once we have established the safest way
for this to happen. Children will be expected to read for at least 10 minutes every day so we ask for
your support to foster a ‘love of reading’ at Northern Parade. If your child has books at home, they are
more than welcome to read those.

The children will be receiving their log-in details for home learning shortly. This will be for our learning
platforms / APPs: Oxford Reading Buddy, MyMaths, Purple Mash and TTRockstars.

Marvellous Me (our communication APP with parents) should now be up and running for Year 3 pupils
too! If you are having any difficulties with Marvellous Me please contact the school office or email me

If you have any questions or concerns, please email me on the email address above or contact the
school office on 02392 662129.
Many Thanks

Miss L Davies
