Gold book winners this week are ...
Autumn Term 1
Hedgehog Class have had a great first week at school. They have all been very grown up and settled into school life well, we have enjoyed making friends and getting to know our classroom And school routines. We are looking forward to seeing them all next week for their first week full time.
This week Hedgehog Class have settled in well to school routines and have coped really well with their first week full time. We have been exploring our School Values by meeting the Value Dragons, ask your child if they can tell you about each dragon?
Please ensure your child has a book bag and P.E bag in school.

This week Hedgehog class have continued to settle in well to school life! We have enjoyed meeting new adults for PE and music and doing lots of exciting learning in our outdoor classroom! We have been working hard to show our school values and the children have done especially well being independent like Isaac and working together like the team work trio.
Hedgehog class have PE every Wednesday so please ensure their PE kit is in school.
Next Thursday we will also have our half trimly visit from Dr Collins our eco warrior !
This week hedgehog class have been painting self portraits of themselves to display in our gallery. They have really enjoyed learning painting skills Andy thinking carefully about which colours they need to use. We had a great time with Dr Collins exploring our Grass Room!
Well done to our Star of the Week – Alex
This week we have begun exploring Numicon in maths. The children have really enjoyed getting to know the different shapes, colours and size of each piece and carefully counting the holes to find out each amount. We worked together to order the Numicon and talk about our favourite Numicon shape.
We have also been thinking about size in our measures lessons and exploring this in our discovery time. The children are able to make simple comparisons and use everyday language to talk about size.
Hedgehogs have PE on Wednesday and music on Thursdays.

The children have worked very hard in the last week of their first term at school! We are very impressed with how well the children have settled into school life over the last few weeks and they have definitely earned their week off! This week we learnt the sounds i, n,m and d, ask your child if they can show you the action for each sound!
Thank you to everyone who attended our craft afternoon on Tuesday, the children loved being able to show you their classrooms! We hope you all have a lovely half term break!
Autumn Term 2
Well done to our Star of the Week – OLIVIA
This week we had our visit from Dr Collins. We have been reading the story ‘How to Catch A Star’ in talk for write, we made a giant star using all of the autumn leaves and then enjoyed making fireworks by throwing the leaves in the air. This week we have had our inspirational maths week and have enjoyed exploring pattern and shape.
Well done to all the children who practised writing their names over the half term!
Well done to our Star of the Week – Shaya!
This week we have been exploring the Numicon rods by using the one rod to find value of each rod. The children have really got more confident with counting carefully and accurately. We have also begun handwriting and the children have been learning to write the curly club letters; a and c.
We have also been preparing for our rememberance assembly on Monday, the children have used handprints to create a beautiful class poppy.
Please continue to read regularly at home and help your child to write their name.
This week we have learnt the sounds h, b, f, l in phonics. We have been practising using our sounds to write cvc words. Here is some of our lovely phonics work this week.
In talk for write we have been thing about what we would wish for if we could wish upon a star, the children thought of some lovely ideas.
In maths we have continued to work with the Numicon rods, exploring their value.
We have also done some art this week, exploring how to make marks with different materials.

This week we have been learning about instructions in our talk for write lessons. We have practised giving instructions to each other and creating instructions for how to catch a star. Next week we will be writing our own instructions for how to catch a star.
In phonics we have been practising all of the sounds we have learnt so far and applying this to our reading and writing.
|This week in talk for write we have been writing instructions for how to catch a star. We came up with a set of class instructions, thinking carefully about how to use time connective and imperative verbs. The children then had a go at creating their own instructions. They came up with some really creative ideas like using a giants chair and a hot air balloon.|
In maths we have been practising all of the skills we have learnt this half term. The children are now very confident using the Numicon apparatus to support their learning.
Well done to everyone in Hedgehog class who performed brilliantly in our dress rehearsal today. I am sure you will do a excellent job in our show on Tuesday.
This week we had a visit from Dr Collins, she taught us how to make Christmas decorations and we had lots of fun. Here are some pictures of us creating our snowflakes.
This week the children performed in our nativity ‘shine, star, shine’ well done to all of the children who worked so hard to learn their words, songs and dances. We also went on our first school trip to the pantomime to watch Aladdin. The children did an excellent job of representing our school and were very sensible. Well done!
Week 8: we have had a very full and exciting last week at school, we enjoyed our first school Christmas dinner and had a wonderful Christmas party with a very special visitor. Well done to everyone in Hedgehog class for an excellent first term in school. I hope you all have a relaxing Christmas break and look forward to seeing you all in the new year.
Spring Term 1
Welcome back Hedgehog class!
This week we have started our new topic, The big top! We had a visit from Clark the clumsy clown and he needs our help. He has forgotten all of his circus skills so needs us to help him learn them again. This week we have been learning about life in the circus to see if we can help him.
In talk for write we learnt our new story, ‘Giraffes Can’t Dance’.
In maths we have been exploring addition. We have been helping Clark to find the total number of juggling balls.
In talk for write we have been thinking about the circus skill that we would most like to be Able to perform. We know that we would need to be very resilient and not give up when we’re practising. Here are some of our ideas.
In maths we looked at 2D shapes, we are very confident naming them and describing their properties. We also made Patterns using the shapes.
In phonics we learnt the digraphs, qu, sh, ch and th. ask your child to show you the action for each sound.
In maths this week we have been learning to add one more. The children have been exploring this using different resources such as Numicon, number lines and counting objects. We have learnt that when we add one more our amount gets bigger. Here are some pictures of us exploring one more.
This week we also had our first trip to the library. The children really enjoyed choosing their new books to take home. The children will be visiting the school library every 2 weeks so please ensure their book is in their book bag on a Wednesday so they can choose a new one.

In talk for write we have been creating posters to invite our families to our wonderful circus performance next week. Don't forget Hedgehog class will be performing on Tuesday 6th February at 2.15pm in the school hall. They can't wait to show off their circus skills.
Spring Term 2
This week we have been exploring taking away in maths. We have Learnt that when you subtract an amount gets smaller. Here are some pictures of us exploring subtraction.
On Monday we had a great surprise! We received a letter from Percy parrot asking us to help him. He had found lots of artefacts and wanted us to find out where they came from. We have really enjoyed exploring them and we have found out they all came from the sea or beach.

This week we had a visit from Dr Collins, we used sea shells to create our own sea creature. We decided to create a shark. We have also continued to export subtraction in maths. We enjoyed telling our subtraction stories using different resources.
This week we have continued to explore subtraction. We have had some problems to solve. The crafty crab has removed some treasure from the treasure chest and we needed to work out how many coins have been taken away. Each treasure chest started with 10 coins, we explored the counting on method to find out how many had been taken away.
This week in talk for write we have been learning about rhyme. The children have been exploring different words that rhyme and looking at the rhyming in our story; commotion in the ocean. Here are some pictures of us exploring rhyme.
Thank you for all of your amazing homework. The children have really enjoyed showing off their treasure chests.
This week in maths we have been exploring sharing, we had some delicious cupcakes that we had to share between two people. We understand that when we share it needs to be equal and both groups need to have the same amount.
In phonics this week we learnt the sounds ur and er, ask your child if they can show the action and tell you the sound.
Summer Term 1
This week we had a very exciting discovery in our playground. There was a giant egg in a nest! We were so excited to find out what was inside the egg and we all had lots of exciting ideas. On Tuesday we came in to find that the egg had hatched. A mysterious creature call mickey had hatched from the egg.
This week we also started our new talk for write story; the little red hen. The children are excellent at retlling it already.
This week in Phonics we have been learning the split digraphs a_e and o_e. We have enjoyed sorting the words and thinking of our own words that contain the split digraph.
In maths we have been looking at equivalence. We have been using the balances to explore making two amounts equal.
This week in maths we have been exploring capacity. We have used water, sand and objects to find out the capacity of different containers.
In talk for write we have been innovating our own story maps, we had some very exciting ideas for where the little red hen could live and what she might find.
This week in Hedgehog class we have been busy practising our songs and dances for the summer fair. The children are really enjoying singing the songs and are getting very good at it. In talk for write the children created their own farm pictures using collage materials. Here is some of the lovely work.
This week we have been busy preparing for our British day Fair. the children have been making British flags, bunting and baking some delicious biscuits to sell at the fair. We also had our trip to Longdown Activity Farm. The children all had a fantastic day and were a credit to our school
Summer Term 2
This week we were very lucky to have a sensory day! The children enjoyed learning sign language, meeting a hearing dog and seeing what it's like to be visually impaired!
In science the children went on a bug hunt, they used magnifying glasses to find lots of different bugs in our grassroom.
This week in talk for write we have been finding out all about our chicks. We learnt lots of facts about chicks and chickens and wrote our own fact files. We especially liked the fact that chickens can live for a while without a head.
