It’s been another busy week at Northern Parade, and the infants are trying very hard with their arts
activities. The year R children have now had two music lessons including songs that they already
know plus a few new activities to begin to stretch their thinking. This week the children met my shy
teddy friend, and were very keen to help him in any way they could. This included showing him
where to put his coat and lunchbox.

The year 1 children are talking about “TIMBRE” in their music lessons – basically covering different
sounds… Sooooo the children may come home and ask you if they can make an instrument out of
junk – if they do, please do help them to investigate any sounds they can come up with. I have told
the children to ask first and of course clean junk is better than unwashed/wiped!! The key words are
SHAKE, SCRAPE, TAP AND PLUCK……we will also be working on SILENCE but that takes a bit longer to
learn.

The year 2 children are investigating the music “PORTSMOUTH” BY Mike Oldfield. They are having
fun moving and grooving to the music but also finding out about its structure. Shortly there will be
on line recorder lessons for any children who are interested, so look out for more details in the near
future.

Lastly, from this Friday onwards, one child from each class in years 1 and 2 will be awarded a “MUSIC
STAR” for anything related to our dragon values, musical progress, making good choices etc. The list
of children will be put up on the website and the children will be told who is the music star for the
week, during their year group assemblies. We have some amazing children at Northern Parade and I
look forward to seeing many of them achieving their music star status.

So, a good start in music. Keep up to date each week for news about arts related activities and links.

Keep singing!
