King's Group Academies

Well done to everyone for showing the school values this past week. You have worked really hard in all aspects of your learning and we are seeing amazing behaviour and attitudes to the learning that is taking place. The reading that has been taking place at home has also been brilliant - keep up the hard work.

In English the children have been writing a character profile on a medieval cook. They have used boxed up plans and talk for write to aid their writing and have shown great independence with using the resources around them. They have written about what a medieval cook does and wears. The children have explored non-fiction books about castles to gather much more information and knowledge about the topic.

In maths we have been focusing on one more and one less. The children have explored different ways to show their learning and problem solving. They have used resources, numicon and number lines to show their brilliant understanding of one more and one less.

In shared reading the children have been reading definitions of parts of the castle and showing their understanding by drawing a picture of the part next to it. Their knowledge of castles is outstanding and they are building on their vocabulary every day.

In topic they have extended their knowledge of castles in the United Kingdom. They learnt what a bird's eye view is and used a map to locate castles in England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales. They have also begun to make castles using junk modelling and working in teams. They worked hard to include the parts of the castles that they now know.

We have a great week ahead of us.

The year 1 team.
