Year 1 has had an extremely busy week this week.

On Tuesday we introduced the children to our new topic 'The Secret Garden' by exploring four different rooms. These rooms included: planting a sunflower seed, observational drawings, role playing the secret garden and going ona bug hunt. The children absolutely loved exploring all of these and the language the children came out with was amazing!

In maths the children have continued to explore two more and two less whilst reasoning their answers. They have become a lot more confident with their reasoning.

The children completed their first hot write. This is an unaided piece of writing about a knight. Their work was amazing! They showed off all their skills they have learnt this year and challenged themselves to add more detail.

In shared reading, the children have explored syllables and showed off their amazing reading skills with independent activities. These included: using their decoding skills to read unknown words, creating their own stories, exploring a range of texts and becoming a storyteller by telling stories from one picture. Their imagination and language was fantastic!

Year 1 ended the week by participating in Pyjamarama. Thank you all for participating and donating.  They had great fun coming into school in their PJ's and completing lots of different reading tasks. Their love for reading really shone through. Remember we are still running our reading challenge each week for the children to earn a reward when they read 5 times in the week.

Keep up the great work year 1!
