Week 6

Wow, what a busy week we have had in Year 2!

In English, the children have shown real resilience when learning and writing the beginning of our class story Sally and the Limpet. They did really well to remember their capital letters, finger spaces and to use their sounds when spelling. They should be very proud of their writing and we are looking forward to innovating the story with them next week.

In Maths, the children have been using a variety of resources to look at the place value of two digit numbers. The children thought about the tens and ones and put two digit numbers in order from smallest to largest. We have also looked at money this week and recapped the value of different coins. The children then applied their place value knowledge to put the coins in order based on their value. Don't forget that MyMaths is still up and running and the children can access different activities to support with their Maths.

In Shared Reading, the children received a letter from some disgruntled stationary. We then thought about all the stationary we may have mistreated in the classroom such as leaving the glue sticks lids off. The children then thought about different questions they could ask and completed a hot seating activity. We were really impressed with their role playing!

In Topic, we looked at the four countries that make up the United Kingdom. We found facts about each country and recorded these in our books. The children really enjoyed learning all the different facts and especially enjoyed hearing Mr Williams talk in Welsh! We also looked at human and physical features in Geography. The children thought carefully about whether an object occurred naturally or was man made and sorted aerial photos of Portsmouth and Hawaii based on whether they were human or physical features.

Have a lovely weekend!
