Thursday 25th June 2026
Dear Parents and Carers,
Following a review of today's events and the extreme temperatures experienced throughout the day, we have made the difficult decision to implement a full school closure on Thursday 25 June 2026.
This means that the school site will be completely closed to all pupils and there will be no on-site provision available.
This decision has not been taken lightly. Throughout today, we experienced several heat-related incidents involving both pupils and staff. Despite implementing measures such as increased hydration breaks, reducing physical activity, using fans where possible, and encouraging children to remain in shaded areas, the conditions inside the school building became increasingly challenging.
Temperatures recorded in some classrooms reached 35°C, creating an environment that is simply not conducive to safe learning or working. Unfortunately, despite our best efforts, it became clear that we could not adequately maintain a safe environment for everyone in our care.
The safety and wellbeing of our pupils and staff will always be our highest priority. Having carefully reviewed today's events, considered the forecast for tomorrow, and taken account of the ongoing Red Heat Health Alert, we do not believe it would be safe to open the school.
We fully appreciate that this unexpected full closure may cause inconvenience for families, and we sincerely apologise for the short notice. However, we hope you will understand that this decision has been made solely in the interests of the health and safety of our school community.
Information regarding remote learning arrangements will be shared separately.
We will continue to monitor the situation closely and will keep you updated regarding arrangements for Friday and beyond as soon as possible.
Thank you for your understanding, patience and continued support.
