Poppy Mural Wall

The children have been assisting Mrs Elliot and Mrs Flood create our amazing poppy mural wall. The children throughout the school have been collecting various bottle tops and bringing them into school, these have been sorted into colours and will begin to be placed onto a mural wall to create some wonderful wall art. Our service children have been involved with this activity and our wall is now starting to take form. We look forward to seeing the final result!

Armed Forces Day

Armed Forces day is the 30th June this year which is on a Saturday and at school we would like to mark this day by giving children a range of experiences to extend their knowledge of the contribution that the armed forces community makes. To achieve this we would like Wednesday the 27th June to be a fun, informative day all about the armed forces.

Our vision is for the children to participate in a range of activities that are relevant to the different roles within the forces.

Pompey’s military kids will select and support a military charity each year

As a result of fundraising already underway at St Jude’s School, this year’s charity is the Royal Navy Royal Marines Charity (RNRMC). The plan will be for each school to organise its own fundraising activities, which can be as large or small as they like, and the money raised will be donated at the end of the academic year. The children were given the opportunity to come up with their own fundraising ideas and presented them to the other children and staff during our first Military Kids after-school club. We then voted and made a decision on what we would do and when. They have decided to organise a school disco and also give all children in the school the opportunity to throw wet sponges at their teachers!

If you chose for your child to become part of the club there will also be the opportunity to take part in Military kids trips. They are in the process of organising a trip to the Royal Marines School of Music, in Portsmouth Naval Base, for the Spring term; and Northern Parade will be allocated a number of spaces for children to experience this. Not all children will be able to attend each trip due to allocated spaces however we will ensure that it is fair and those that do not go will be prioritised for the next arranged trip.

So these are all exciting events to look out for on our website. Letters will also be sent out to parents nearer the date of the event.
